Ultimate Snackdown Fitness Challenge

Happy New Year!
Anybody got any good resolutions?
Mine is to have more fun and be more social. If left to my own preferences, I could very easily become a hermit. But hermiting causes one to become dull and serious all the time. 2006 isn't the year for dullards, so I'm resolving to be social.

And, of course, like many others, to lose weight. This snackdown diet of cheesecakes, eggnog and chocolate chip cookies is going straight to my chin. No double chins in 2006! Over the Christmas holidays, I discussed with Blue Grilled Cheese the possibility of an Ultimate Snackdown Fitness Challenge. BGC seemed keen on being a contestant (right?) and Gentleman Caller is always game for a competition. Anyone else up for the challenge? My goal is 5# every two weeks, until I waste away to nothing (unlikely because I have the added disadvantage of judging snackdown battles). Other contestants can use the same goal, or set their own, and check in every two weeks.

My challenge begins tomorrow, as today was spent languishing in bed recuperating from a vicious, but totally warranted, hangover. I made an excellent (so I hear) New Year's Day Soup, but the smell was nauseating, so I had a cheese sandwich for dinner. My strategy for the next two weeks is to drink more water and move more. We'll see how well that works out for me.

I like the idea of Ultimate Snackdown Fitness Challenge, but I can't fathom a plan on my own. Perhaps some healthy recipes? Exercise is tough here in the tundra (I only ski on the weekends), but I'm sure my diet could be improved.

:-)

I'll see what I can do about adding some healthy recipes. I'm not planning to change my diet too much (if I can help it). I'd rather be rotund than give up good food. I'm hoping that more activity will keep the double chins at bay. But if I come across any good healthy recipes, I'll pass them along. Scout's honor.

I'm totally in... Let me ponder what my goals will be... more soon

I object to the idea of "transforming" previously delicious food into "healthy" food. Healthy food is healthy food and can be very tasty, but let's just admit that (good) cake and cookies and cream sauces are not healthy. And if they're twisted and bastardized into healthy versions they very quickly become ack. So in order to enjoy the non-healthy foods in a healthy way, I suggest changing the act of preparing food. For example, don't use the blender -- beat everything by hand. Knead more. Un-organize your kitchen so you spend more time walking around it and looking through drawers. Store commonly used items on top of cabinets so you have to work to get them down. Since my sister stole my blender, I had to do all my holiday mixing/beating/etc by hand. I ate with wild abandon and gained zero pounds. So there you go.

I would be interested in future challenges...although I am still waiting on my chili smackdown to make the list (definately not healthy). In hopes of not setting myself up to fail, I resolve in 2006 to improve my eyesight :)
